Who’s a candidate for teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening works for a variety of stains and discoloration issues, but not all. Patients with yellowing teeth are great candidates, however, those with brown stains, and dark, or purple discoloration may not be ideal candidates for whitening.

The best way to determine if our in-office whitening treatment is right for you is by scheduling an appointment with our dental specialists. Some patients may benefit from other cosmetic procedures, such as veneers or dental bonding.

What can you expect from tooth whitening?

Getting your teeth whitened is a relatively easy procedure. We will use a lip retractor to ensure we can easily access your teeth and to protect your lips and gums from the whitening agent. Then, we’ll clean your teeth to remove any food debris or plaque that may be present. We will apply, rinse, and re-apply the whitening agent until we have reached the desired shade. Then, we apply fluoride to help protect the teeth and strengthen the enamel. This helps to minimize tooth sensitivity as well. The typical whitening appointment lasts around 60 minutes. If you have sensitive teeth in general and would like to start whitening, we recommend to start using sensodyne tooth paste two weeks before your whitening appointment. It will help minimize the sensitivity after treatment.
